Two-time Olympic Champion, Ambassador of the 8th Children of Asia Games Vyacheslav Fetisov Visited NEFU
Today, March 18, North-Eastern Federal University hosted Vyacheslav Fetisov, a two-time Olympic champion in ice hockey, UN Ambassador for Environmental Affairs and Ambassador of the 8th Children of Asia Games. During his visit to the Republic, the famous athlete is planning to take part in the Flame Lighting Ceremony of the 8th Children of Asia Games.
Answering questions from NEFU staff and students, Vyacheslav Fetisov shared moments from his sports career and recalled victories at the club and international levels. “I have 72 titles in my collection, including children’s and adult professional sports. I still remember the first competitions I won when I was just starting to play hockey. Therefore, Children of Asia Games have a high competitive status where young talents from many countries of the world will gather,” the two-time Olympic champion emphasized.
Tomorrow, March 19, Vyacheslav Fetisov and other famous athletes will take part in the Flame Lighting Ceremony of the 8th Children of Asia Games - the main symbol of the upcoming competitions in Yakutsk. The ceremony will be held at the foot of the Lena Pillars. After the ceremony the flame will travel throughout all districts of the Republic.
“Today we all had a unique opportunity and great honor to communicate with an outstanding athlete, a person who left a significant mark not only in Russian, but also in world sports. We managed to discuss with Vyacheslav Aleksandrovich a number of issues related to the environment, children’s and youth sports in Russia and the role of Children of Asia Games always supported by Vyacheslav Aleksandrovich. I am confident that after returning to their birthplace, Children of Asia will once again become the driving force for development of children’s sports and the beginning of the path to elite sports,” shared Anatoly Nikolaev, NEFU Rector.
