The 8th Children of Asia Games Torch Relay in Momsky District

The flame of the 8th Children of Asia Games was met in the village of Khonuu, Momsky district, on May 15.

The headmaster of Children and Youth Sports School Alexander Argunov, 8th grade student, badminton champion of Sports Yakutians Games Andrey Gromov, master of sports in freestyle wrestling, two-time world champion among veterans Semyon Sorkomov, table tennis coach Nikolay Sleptsov, 8th grade student, three-time fast sledge jump champion of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Viola Ilyina, 9th grade student, member of the junior volleyball district team Ariyana Imanova, 8th grade student, 8th grade student, medalist of open district and republican competitions Ersan Sleptsov, Deputy Head of the Momsky district Akulina Kulbertinova, Acting Head Arthur Tarabukin were those who carried the torch.

“Our children need such events, they give motivation to exercise. The fire was carried by the best athletes. We've got an example here. Previously, Nyurgustana, Nyurguyana, Tuyara and Erkhan Sorkomovs participated in the Children of Asia Games in freestyle wrestling and Julus Sleptsov in kurash, all were from our district. I have already participated in the torch relay several times. It now takes place in the republic on a larger scale and more spectacularly than previously, there are more participants, and a healthy lifestyle is promoted. I wish all the success to our team”, Semyon Sorkomov, two-time world champion in freestyle wrestling among veterans, master of sports, coach in freestyle wrestling shared. 

The 8th Children of Asia Games Torch Relay was previously held in Khangalassky, Gorny, Vilyuysky, Verkhnevilyuysky, Nyurbinsky, Suntarsky, Mirninsky, Lensky, Anabarsky, Olenyoksky, Bulunsky, Zhigansky, Ust-Yansky, Allaikhovsky, Nizhnekolymsky, Srednekolymsky, Verkhnekolymsky, Olyokminsky, Eveno-Bytantaysky, Verkhoyansky, Abyysky districts. 

285 torchbearers and 560 volunteers have already taken part in the torch relay, covering 31,221 km.

100 days before the start of the big event, the Flame Lighting Ceremony of the 8th Games was held at the Lena Pillars Nature Park on March 19. The torch relay started in Pokrovsk, Khangalssky district, on March 20 and will finish at the opening ceremony of the Games in Yakutsk on June 26. The total length of the relay race in the republic will be more than 37 thousand kilometers.

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin previously called Children of Asia “one of the most interesting and successful projects in the field of children’s and youth sports.”

The Head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolaev noted: “The 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games will be one of the largest international competitions in the country in 2024 and will be held at the highest level”.

The 8th Children of Asia Games will be held from June 25 to July 7, 2024 in Yakutsk.
