The Far Eastern Federal District team prepares for the 8th Children of Asia Games in Yakutia
The team of the Far East regions is preparing for the 8th Children of Asia Games. The Far Eastern Federal District team has been participating in major international youth sports competitions since 2012.
The team includes the best athletes from the Amur, Magadan, Sakhalin Regions, Kamchatka, Trans-Baikal, Khabarovsk, Primorye Territories, Republic of Buryatia, Chukotka Autonomous Area, and Jewish Autonomous Region.
The young athletes are actively preparing for the upcoming event. Marina Zakharova, senior coach and teacher of the Sakhalin Regional Volleyball Sports School, stated that the athletes are driven to win.
"The Sakhalin Region will compete in classic volleyball at the Children of Asia Games for the first time. The children are very excited to visit a new place, although they have heard a lot about the competition's level. Even though our chances are not very high, we have selected great players, and they are driven to win," Marina Zakharova said.
Most athletes of the Khabarovsk Territory will compete in basketball, volleyball and swimming. For the first time, they will perform at the Games in sport climbing, dance sport, and Go.
"It is a great honour for me to represent my favourite sport in the Far Eastern team. I set my heart on victory. Additional intensive training sessions with the Russian coaching team are underway. When I was a kid, my older sister started playing Go, and I was on the fence about following her example for a while. But eventually her success and the opportunity to compete outside our hometown managed to draw me in. I dream of achieving high performance at the national level, and I am looking forward to visiting Yakutia," said Kamilla Parashchina, winner of the Khabarovsk Territory and Far Eastern Federal District Go championships.
The Kamchatka Territory athletes will represent the region in three sports: mini football, swimming, and boxing.
"13 athletes of our region under the age of 16 are part of the Far Eastern Federal District team in three sports: football (10 people), swimming (1 person), boxing (2 people)," said Lyudmila Popova, head of the Sports Development and Higher Sportsmanship Department of the regional Ministry of Sport.
We remind you that the 8th Children of Asia Games will be held from June 25 to July 7, 2024, in Yakutsk.
