Chess players compete for medals at the Children of Asia Games

The first round of the chess tournament of the 8th Children of Asia Games has started today in Yakutsk. Eighteen boys and fourteen girls from eight countries of the world and five districts of Russia are taking part in the competition. The tournament is being held in the Building of Faculties of Natural Sciences at the M.K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University and will last from June 26 to July 4.

Chief referee of the tournament Mikhail Kryukov said that the competition is held according to the Swiss system in 9 rounds, conducted separately among boys and girls. Athletes will play two sets of medals, where the highest number of points determines the winners.

"Teams from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan brought some of their best chess players, both among boys and girls. Athletes from other national teams, especially the representatives of Russia, are serious and ready to hold their grounds. Predictions at such an early stage are always risky, but one thing is certain: the outcome of the tournament can be decided in the last rounds, as everything is very unpredictable. We expect to see a lot of exciting games and an intense fight for every point," Mikhail Kryukov noted.
Chess matches will be held daily from 10:00 to 14:00 hours. The tournament promises to be intense and rich in unexpected twists, which will bring additional tension and interest to the fight for medals.
