Media relations and meeting with famous athletes: the Future Champion project has come to an end at the 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games
Today, on July 5, the last day of the Future Champion educational programme is being held at the NEFU Natural Sciences Building. This event was intended for young athletes to learn about media relations and to be able to communicate with prominent athletes
On 4 July, yesterday, the guest speaker was Rosalina Kirillina, bronze medallist in archery at the 5th Children of Asia International Sports Games, and today Merey Akshalov, alumnus of the 3rd Children of Asia International Sports Games, World Champion and Champion of Asia (2013), Honoured Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Chief Referee of the 8th Children of Asia Games here in Yakutsk.
"This project is intended to make young athletes understand that in the 21st century, in the globalised and digitalised world, success depends not only on sports achievements, but also on the ability to interact with the media. It is not only important to win medals, become Olympic and world champions, but also to develop skills in communicating with the media. This is an essential part of any athlete's job. An athlete is a public person. It is important to be able to present oneself correctly, answer questions competently, defend one's point of view, maintain social networks, and even create YouTube channels. Indeed, every successful athlete is a public figure, a phenomenon that the public follows. Therefore, working with the media is a huge benefit for both the athletes themselves and the sport they represent," said Mikhail Guberniev, curator of the Future Champion project.
Young athletes who went through the educational programme sites noted that the information they received is definitely needed in the future.
"We have learned how to give interviews properly, how to answer difficult, tricky questions. It will be very useful in my future career in big sports.", - Daria Ostapenko from Ural Federal District athletics team, a participant of the 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games, shared her impressions.
In total, more than 500 young athletes from 30 teams of the 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games took part in the project.
