Torch Relay Started in Lensk
The 8th Children of Asia Games Torch Relay took place in Lensk. The starting point of the Torch Relay - Yunost Cultural Center - brought together city residents and volunteers.
The guardians lit the Rorch and handed it to the Head of Lensk district, Alexander Cherepanov. He passed the Torch to the first torchbearer Andrei Kharchenko, the winner of the 1st Children of Asia Games in 1996. He won 2 gold and 2 silver medals in athletics. This year his son to take part in the upcoming Games.
The Route of the torchbearers ran along the central streets of the town. The relay was ended by the Master of Sports of the Russian Federation, champion of Russia, Europe and the World Cup in mas-wrestling Innokentii Fedorov.
Anna Barbashova, Director of Serge Additional Education School, shared her impressions. Anna was a participant of Children of Asia Games in 2004, she is a three-time champion of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in dance sport.
“I took part in the Games 20 years ago and, of course, I am honored to have been selected as a torchbearer. Running through my home streets, in my home town, in front of spectators and fans is an indescribable feeling. I feel the greatest pride for my town, my district, for our republic and for our country!” Anna Barbashova shared her impressions.
Next stage of the Relay starts on April 3 from the Anabar district. The Torch Relay will end on June 26 at the Opening ceremony of the 8th Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk.
