8th Children of Asia Games Torch Relay Started in Yakutia
The 20th of March marked the start of the 8th Children of Asia Games Torch Relay. The first to greet the Games flame was Khangalassky district - the birthplace of the founder of Children of Asia Games, the First President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Mikhail Nikolaev.
The Route ran along the central streets of the city and ended on the Lena River embankment. In total, 21 people became torchbearers in Pokrovsk. Among them were Leonid Spiridonov - Minister for Physical Culture and Sports of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Oleg Irineev - head of Khangalassky district, prominent athletes, leading citizens and schoolchildren.
To recall, the Torch Relay will travel across all 36 districts of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in the hands of 550 torchbearers. The distance of the route will cover about 37,000 km. The Relay will end on June 26 at the Opening Ceremony of the 8th Children of Asia Games.
