Yury Trutnev: Children of Asia Games to be held at the Highest Organizational Level
Yury Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, chaired Federal Organizing Committee meeting on holding the 8th Children of Asia Games.
“This year in July we will hold Children of Asia Games in Yakutsk. More than 3,000 young athletes are planned to participate in this major international event. Such large-scale international competitions are of particular importance,” Yury Trutnev opened the meeting.
“Children of Asia Games is a project originated in Yakutia. For almost three decades it has occupied an important place in the Russian sports calendar and in the international level. The Games provide an opportunity for young athletes to compete against each other in a spirit of respect, togetherness and friendship. Member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia, states and regions whose territory is located on the Asian continent, as well as federal districts of Russia are allowed to paricipate in the Games,” said Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin.
The Head of Yakutia, Aisen Nikolaev, noted that the main priority is the preparation of competition venues. 16 sports facilities to host competitions, and 13 facilities to be involved in trainings. To date, construction of one facility and renovation of 11 sports facilities are underway. All major work is planned to be completed in April. Completion of all work is planned no later than May.
According to the Children of Asia International Committee, about 3,400 participants are expected. Submitting of the Official Entry to close on April 1, 2024.
The 8th Children of Asia International Sports Games will take place from June 25 to July 7, 2024 in Yakutsk. The 1st Games, initiated by the First President of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) Mikhail Nikolaev, were held in 1996.
